On connected infrastructure, roads and vehicles now talking to each other<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Digitalization of infrastructure assets will lead to increasingly widespread information exchange between infrastructure and vehicles, and among vehicles<\/strong>. In the initial stage, this dialog will take place mainly as I2V<\/strong> (Infrastructure-to-Vehicle), and then evolve into V2X<\/strong> (Vehicle-to-Everything), allowing communication among vehicles, road infrastructure and any other element that may be part of the interconnected system.
 
 Movyon’s goal is to give highway operators an active role in developing autonomous driving, so that the road infrastructure can amplify the ability of vehicles to keep driving autonomous, and receive and return information, in addition to the information that can be processed by its on-board sensors<\/strong>, with the aim of raising safety and sustainability levels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cooperative technologies developed by Movyon<\/strong> enable communication between vehicle and infrastructure<\/strong> (V2I). Antennas<\/strong> arranged along the highway mean the system can enable an information exchange between traffic control centers and devices on board vehicles. Vehicles can receive information such as the presence of roadworks, queues and accidents<\/strong>, and send real-time traffic data to the infrastructure, and from there to monitoring centers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Communication between vehicle and infrastructure is also used to improve precision positioning to ensure that vehicles are always able to maintain the same level of driving automation<\/strong>, a crucial safety-related aspect, especially in areas with poor or no GPS signal (such as tunnels).
 
These communication systems will play a fundamental role in the development of autonomous driving on highways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Movyon collaborates with several research institutes<\/strong> on this aspect.It initiated several trials with the Politecnico di Milano in particular<\/strong>, including one related to the Dynamic Speed Limit project on the Naples Ring Road, where connected vehicles were given an indication of the optimal speed to be maintained along a stretch of highway with the aim of preventing queues from forming. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
