The Naples\u2013Pompeii\u2013Salerno<\/strong> motorway section is a strategic infrastructure, characterised by the presence of historic viaducts that require particular attention and maintenance. In this context, the need emerged to monitor heavy goods traffic in order to ensure road safety, preserve the durability of structures and optimise traffic management<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the main issues concerned the transit of freight vehicles carrying loads above the legal limits, which can cause damage to the road surface, slowdowns and an increased risk of accidents. To address this critical issue, the Campania Region, in collaboration with Movyon, adopted an innovative technological solution: an advanced dynamic weighing system capable of detecting the weight of vehicles in transit in real time<\/strong>. The platform is designed to identify vehicles exceeding the critical threshold of 40 tonnes<\/strong> \u2013 above which transit is prohibited \u2013 activating immediate road safety measures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The system integrates sensors in the road surface<\/strong> that measure the weight of moving vehicles, together with advanced algorithms that analyse the data and automatically identify violations. Only overloaded vehicles are photographed and recorded, with information immediately sent to the concessionaire\u2019s operations centre and to the Traffic Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Variable message signs along the route support the system by indicating the obligation to exit to vehicles in violation, enabling rapid and safe intervention. The infrastructure includes 16 weighing sites<\/strong> and 40 warning and advance-signalling systems<\/strong>, ensuring extensive and effective coverage along the entire section. Five key locations \u2013 Pompeii, Nocera Inferiore, Salerno, Ponte Cagnano and Vietri sul Mare \u2013 represent the main nodes of the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The system not only prevents the transit of non-compliant vehicles, but also optimises checks, discourages improper behaviour and enables road maintenance to be planned more efficiently. With measurement accuracy within a maximum error margin of 10%<\/strong>, the Weigh-in-Motion<\/strong> project represents an advanced model for heavy goods traffic management, with the aim of extending this technology in future to 20 weighing points across the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
