Tangenziale di Napoli has officially entered the history of Italian mobility as the country\u2019s first certified Smart Road. This milestone marks a concrete step toward the digitalization of road infrastructure, with Movyon acting as the project\u2019s technology enabler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The certification, issued by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in accordance with the requirements of Ministerial Decree 70\/2018, recognizes that the network managed by Tangenziale di Napoli S.p.A. fully complies with standards for intelligent traffic management, asset monitoring, and communication with connected vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the true innovation lies in the technological infrastructure. Movyon designed, implemented, and integrated the entire digital ecosystem that enables Smart Road: a distributed network of sensors, smart cameras, antennas, and advanced communication systems, together with the central C-ITS platform, which collects and analyzes data in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across the 22 kilometers of Tangenziale di Napoli, this architecture translates into tangible figures: 217 cameras, 15 detection gantries, 8 weather stations, and 40 antennas, enabling continuous monitoring of traffic, environmental conditions, and road status. All this information is processed and transformed into operational tools for more efficient and proactive traffic management.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

These foundations support the three key functions defined by Smart Road regulations: traffic monitoring, carried out through distributed sensors that feed predictive models to support operational decision-making; weather and hydrogeological monitoring, using environmental data to promptly identify risk conditions; and infrastructure-to-vehicle communication, enabling bidirectional information exchange between the road and connected vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In these three areas, Movyon\u2019s technology goes beyond data collection, turning data into effective decision-making tools for operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along Tangenziale di Napoli, vehicles receive information on traffic, accidents, roadworks, and weather conditions, along with dynamic speed recommendations, while the infrastructure acquires up-to-date data directly from circulating vehicles. In the section between Vomero and Fuorigrotta, a significant pilot project was also conducted, involving an autonomous vehicle capable of adapting its speed based on information received from the infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The transformation of Tangenziale di Napoli into a Smart Road represents not only a first-of-its-kind achievement, but also a scalable and replicable operational model.
