Autonomous driving in A26

A new trial of a system supporting autonomous driving on the Autostrade per l’Italia network.

Movyon has launched an autonomous driving trial programme in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano, within the framework of Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS), with the aim of transforming road infrastructure into an active and connected element.

By installing antennas along the motorway network, the infrastructure can communicate with vehicles in real time, enabling a continuous exchange of information. This integration extends the perception of the surrounding environment, improving the decision-making capabilities of autonomous vehicles and increasing overall safety levels.

The activities, developed in collaboration with Autostrade per l’Italia, led to the first on-road trials in open traffic along the A26 motorway, where in July 2023 autonomous vehicles travelled approximately 20 km.

A further area of testing concerns precision positioning, including in complex environments such as tunnels, where the GPS signal is absent or degraded. Thanks to vehicle-to-infrastructure communication systems, it is possible to ensure continuity of autonomous driving performance even without satellite coverage.

These trials represent a tangible step towards the development of increasingly advanced, reliable and safe autonomous mobility.
