2. WHAT ARE COOKIES AND HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

Cookies are pieces of code (computer files or partial data) sent by a server to the user’s Internet browser, automatically stored on the user’s device by the browser and automatically sent back to the server each time the site is accessed or subsequently accessed. A cookie usually contains the name of the website from which the cookie originates and the duration of the cookie (i.e. how long it will remain on the user’s device). On each subsequent visit, cookies are either sent back to the website that issued them (first party cookies) or to another website that recognises them (third party cookies). Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognise a user’s device and they serve a number of purposes, such as allowing you to navigate efficiently between pages, remembering your favourite sites and generally improving your browsing experience. They also help to ensure that the advertising content displayed online is better targeted to a user and their interests.

If you choose to disable cookies, or particular categories of cookies, this may affect and/or limit your experience of the Website. For example, you may not be able to visit certain sections of the Website or you may not receive personalised information when you visit the Website. In addition, a cookie may be “first party” or “third party” depending on the website or domain from which it originates. First party cookies are, in essence, cookies set and/or managed by the Website Owner. Third party cookies are cookies set by a domain other than the one visited by the user. In relation to third party cookies, Movyon has no control over the information provided by the cookie and has no access to such data. This information is fully controlled by the third party companies as described in their respective privacy and cookie policies.

Cookies can expire at the end of a browser session (the period between the user opening a browser window and closing it) or they can be stored for a longer period of time. Session’ cookies are those that allow websites to link a user’s actions during a single browsing session and are deleted when the user ends the browser session. “Persistent” cookies are stored on a user’s device beyond a single browsing session, for varying periods of time, and allow the user’s preferences or actions with respect to a particular website to be stored. Through persistent cookies, users accessing the Website (or any other users using the same computer) are automatically recognised at each visit.
