Satellite System
Movyon’s Satellite Tolling solution calculates toll charges using geolocation data generated by a GNSS-enabled On Board Unit (OBU).
The satellite OBU transmits the vehicle’s position data to the central platform. Advanced Map Matching algorithms process the data, match each position to the road network and reconstruct the vehicle’s journey. Based on the applicable tolling rules defined by the operator, the system automatically verifies the route and calculates the corresponding toll.
Unlike conventional toll collection systems, satellite tolling does not rely solely on toll plazas or roadside gantries. Instead, toll charges are calculated based on the journey itself. Distance travelled, road segments, vehicle category and tariff rules can all be combined to support more flexible tolling models.
This approach makes it possible to extend toll collection across large and complex road networks while enabling tariff schemes, charging zones and network coverage to be updated over time through the central platform.
OBU GO Sat
Movyon’s OBU GO Sat combines GNSS positioning with DSRC communication in a single device.
In GNSS-based tolling domains, it uses satellite positioning and mobile connectivity to calculate toll charges. In environments equipped with DSRC infrastructure, it communicates directly with roadside equipment using the appropriate protocol.
The device automatically recognizes the tolling environment of the country in which the vehicle is travelling and selects the required communication protocol. As a result, a single On Board Unit can operate seamlessly across different road networks and tolling models, simplifying both the driver experience and service management.

European interoperability
Movyon’s platform is deployed across multiple European tolling domains and supports the One OBU, One Contract principle, allowing drivers to travel across different countries using a single On-Board Unit and one service agreement.
The solution is designed to integrate with multiple Toll Chargers and Toll Service Providers, securely exchanging the information required for toll calculation, settlement and reporting.
Beyond toll calculation, the platform provides comprehensive monitoring, diagnostics and reporting capabilities. Operators can verify data received from On-Board Units, review reconstructed journeys and monitor overall service performance.
Depending on project requirements, positioning and route data can also support additional services such as fleet management and vehicle tracking.
Today, the Movyon platform processes more than 1 billion GPS positions every day and manages over 100,000 km of satellite tolling networks
